Windows Azure is a cloud services operating system that serves as the development, service hosting and service management environment for the Windows Azure platform.
Windows Azure provides developers with on-demand compute and storage to host, scale, and manage web applications on the internet through Microsoft® data centres.
Windows Azure is an open platform that supports Microsoft and non-Microsoft languages and environments. To build applications and services on Windows Azure, developers can use their existing Microsoft® Visual Studio® expertise. In addition, Windows Azure supports popular standards and protocols including SOAP, REST, XML, and PHP.
As with other technologies for cloud computing, Windows Azure is intended to simplify IT management and minimise up-front and ongoing expenses. To this end, Azure was designed to facilitate the management of scalable Web applications over the Internet.

Kynetix were one of the first Microsoft Partners worldwide to launch an application running on the Azure platform.
In September 2009 we converted our trade breaks application, Resolve, to run on the Azure platform. This enabled us to get an early insight into the requirements for building applications for Azure and helped us understand what is required to convert existing applications.

Microsoft also recognised the leading role we have played in Azure adoption by inviting us to speak at two sessions at the Microsoft University. This was a chance to present to hundreds of Microsoft staff from the UK & Europe and to show them the power of the Azure platform with a real-world application.
